His achievements also include the BBC Wildlife Award for most creative interpretation of wildlife and in 2002 he received the Artist for Nature Foundation award. In the same year he travelled to Tanzania and Uganda on a painting expedition where he gained first hand experience of West Africa’s flora and fauna. The year 2003 saw him travel to Peru and Ecuador as part of the “Artist for Nature Foundation” expedition.

He has had many illustrative works published, his recent work includes writing and illustrating children’s picture books: ‘The Tide’ and ‘The River’. Nik is also a visiting tutor to the Royal College of Art.

“All non-commissioned works are derivative of a direct response to nature aiming to capture and communicate an experience or encounter intuitively. The majority of paintings being conceived and resolved outdoors in situation, whilst studio work enables another interpretation of the same subject but with a reflective / distilled approach.”
