Talbot Kelly was strongly influenced by the Ancient Egyptians and the Chinese.
His watercolours reflected the environment and the actions of birds and he approached bird painting from a completely different perspective than many of his contemporaries. His work was often straight from memory and spontaneous.
Alongside an economical, non-overworked style his use of ink allowed him to select the elements of character and form which were emphasised to great effect.
