Esther is a painter whose work reflects her deep feeling for the natural world, without being sentimental. Painting from life, she seeks to capture the essence of her subject. Her painting is a response to the smell, sights and sounds. It emerges from her reactions, feelings and thoughts toward both her subject and the marks she makes.
"...walking along a path into the forest - tall Norway spruce, grey skies and bright white underfoot. My eyes struggle with the dazzling snow. A little further and tracks... BEAR!! we tracked him backward - to follow in his direction could lead to encounter we did not want to push for right now. He ambled in, out and around the tree line. For a moment out into the open, a 100 yards before crossing our path to continue winding through the forest. Ahead a hut for storage, of food? As I approach I found the wood splintered with claw marks, six feet high..."
